The initial material was a box filled with old photographs that had survived a flood in Brazil. The pictures were interesting, but I wanted to explore ways to go beyond a mere scrapbook. The objective was to invoke the reader's own personal experiences, which was achieved through the development of two themes (memory_identity) over several spreads. The photographs were explored in a cinematic way to unveil hidden narratives, introducing different characters - like the archetypal grandmother or the Boy Scout's group. On the 'surface' of some pages, 'floating' over the images - giving a context, expanding or even counter-pointing - are several fragments of poems and prose that came to me over time. The 'Memory Identity' book was recipient of the Adobe 2001 Design Achievement Awards-1st Prize in the most creative print work.
